A common question among travelers, but without a one-size-fits-all answer, as it depends on your interests, the type of trip you want, and your budget.

Here's a comprehensive guide to help you decide when to travel to Zambia.

High Season: (June – October)

During the dry season, the weather is ideal for safaris as animals gather around waterholes, rivers, and lakes, offering excellent wildlife viewing. During this period, there's a good chance of spotting animals almost year-round depending on frequency and what you want to see.

Mid Season: (March and November)

During these months, some national parks close due to the rains, and some roads become impassable. However, you can take internal flights to reach certain sites and enjoy a more peaceful safari experience as hotels offer more affordable prices and there are fewer visitors.

Low Season: (December – May)

During the rainy season, some lodges in the national parks are closed. However, you can visit Victoria Falls and go on safaris in neighboring countries such as Botswana and Zimbabwe.

In Zambia, the official currency is the Kwacha, and the exchange rate as of today is $1 = K27.62. Additionally, the United States dollar is used, although it is not accepted everywhere. For up-to-date exchange information, you can check here. Credit cards are accepted, but not at all services. We recommend carrying cash just in case. You can exchange currency upon arrival at a bank office in Lusaka or directly at the international airport (though it can be expensive).

In Zimbabwe, the United States dollar (USD) is widely accepted and used for most transactions. Travelers should carry USD in cash, as it is the preferred currency for everyday purchases, and ATMs usually dispense US dollars.

In Botswana, the official currency is the pula (BWP), although the United States dollar (USD) is also accepted in some tourist areas, especially in large establishments such as hotels and shops. However, it is recommended that travelers use pulas (BWP) for most daily transactions, as it is the local currency and most commonly accepted in the country.
